NON RESIDENTS Individuals or partners are eligible to look at investment properties in Australia. Each lender may have specific criteria for lending.
The outline for eligibility is as follows:
Non-resident is any person who:
• Permanently resides out of Australia and is not an Australian Citizen or;
• Is an Australian Citizen that has been living and working outside Australia for more than 6 consecutive months or;
• Is not an Australian Citizen but has been residing in Australia for less than 6 consecutive months.
There are different home loan types available for different types of people buying property in Australia. Most people buying real estate in Australia are able to borrow 80% of the property value. In some cases it is possible to borrow over 80% of the property value depending on where you are living and if you are an Australia Citizen or not.
The countries that mostly invest in Australia are the USA, Singapore, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, India, China, Malaysia, Japan, Chile and New Zealand are showing trends of increasing investment in Australia.
Government approval is required for foreign nationals buying real estate in Australia, except for New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents.
